About Croatia

Croatia is a country located in Southern Europe with its capital in Zagreb. Croatia from the south west has access to the warm and clear Adriatic Sea. It is bordered on the east by Serbia and Hungary, and Slovenia to the north and to the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Croatia from 1st July, 2013 has become a member of the European Union.

Croatia's land area is 56 594 square kilometres, sea area territorial waters of Croatia are  31 067 km².

Coastal regions of Croatia are Istria, Kvarner (Kvarner), Northern Dalmatia, Central Dalmatia, South Dalmatia.

The number of Croatian citizens is 4,253 000 (figures from 2013). Most of the inhabitants are Croats. The most numerous national minorities are Serbs, Bosnians, Slovenes, Hungarians, Czechs, Italians and Albanians.

The official currency is the Croatian Kuna (HRK 1 = 100 lip). As in most European countries people can exchange foreign currency in exchange offices, banks and post offices. Credit cards (Euro card / MasterCard, Visa and American Express) are accepted from all ATMs, convenience stores, gas stations, restaurants, shops, hotels and gates on the highways.

In Croatia you will find three climatic zones. In the mountains above 1600 meters above sea level, there is a mountain climate. In areas along the Adriatic coast there is a warm Mediterranean climate (winters are mild and wet and summers dry and hot). The average temperature in the mainland: Winter: from - 2 ° C to 0 ° C, summer: approximately 20 ° C. The average temperature on the coast winter 5 ° C and 9 ° C, summer 22 ° C to 25 ° C. The average temperature of the sea in winter 12 ° C in summer to about 25 ° C.
